Rilakkuma Day! 10.11.14

This past Saturday, San-X celebrated Rilakkuma Day at FAO Shwarz! They had so much Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma and Kiitori merchandise! Plushies of all sizes, pens, mugs, pencil pouches, kigurumis, you name it!

They also had a Rilakkuma mascot you could take pictures with, and cute lolitas and fairy kei girls working the event! I was so excited!

My boyfriend and I took pictures with Rilakkuma together and I dressed in lolita for the occasion (something I haven't done in MONTHS!)

Sources: (mine) and 2 (The Rilakkuma Girls, including Victoria Suzanne!)

In the end, my boyfriend offered to get me any plush I wanted and my heart was set on the Korilakkuma bunny head pillow. We literally grabbed the VERY last one. I was so happy! All in all, a very kawaii day!

For more photos, search the hashtag #RilakkumaDay on Instagram!

P.S. If you're in NYC during October, the Rilakkuma displays will be up for the entire month, so don't miss it!
OOTD:

Cardigan: Forever 21
Necklace: Handmade by me
Bow Double Brooch: Little Banshees
JSK: Bodyline
Purse: Betsey Johnson
Tights: Forever 21
Shoes: Bakers
My poor petti died by the end of the event (lots of smooshing in between people)
I really liked the coord though! First one I've 100% been satisfied with!

Are you planning to go see the Rilakkuma Displays?
What merch would you have gotten if you had been there?

Sebastian Masuda's "Colorful Rebellion" -Seventh Nightmare

Yesterday I was determined to catch the last performance Masuda-san was hosting in his exbition. It starred  Yuka from the famed accesories line 6% Doki Doki and I really didn't want to miss it!

Here I will leave you with Masuda-san's description of his work:
"I have created this work as I was writing my own autobiography. Struggling in this confined space of confession, I battle with the waves of darkness washing up against me in a night without end. I am not trying to express the grotesque through kawaii elements; rather, the essence of kawaii exists in the process by which individuals are attracted to, and become dependent on, kawaii things. The process by which young girls become adults is full of twists and contortions, potentially resulting in colorful mutiny. The distortion and strain of the process of a young girl maturing into an adult. The colorful rebellion of girls. That I have created a safe haven for disobedience is my most cardinal sin. The installation has 6 zones. The seventh? It's entrusted in your hands."

The first zone is “Lust” - a waking dream that is lost at the same moment it is grasped; the second zone is “Future” - hopes and dreams; the third zone is “Delusions” - a complex that expands endlessly; the fourth zone is “Fate” - a muddy stream drawing near; Zone 5 is “Wounds” - trauma that still remains; and Zone 6 is “Reality” - above the rubble of anxiety.

We were not allowed to take video of the performance, but were allowed to take pictures! I took so many haha. Also, I know not everyone will have a chance to see it, so I've narrated down below the performance from the show. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I loved watching the performance!

The performance was beautiful. Yuka played the part of a girl that was in a lucid dream. She explored the room in disbelief, touching everything to see if it was real. She looked around in awe at the colors and toys, the teddy bear, the bed... She sat down and she suddenly looked quite sad, her eyes seemed to be holding back tears. She must have realized that this is not reality, but just a dream (in the background a song about Cinderella called "I'm just a poor Cinderella"). The girl takes off her white nightgown and tosses it aside and falls asleep. Shortly after, she wakes up and reaches for some children's books set on the bed. She leafs through them, smiling at the pictures. She puts on a mint green nightgown and brushes out her hair and later stands on the bed. She starts dancing and sprinkling pink feathers throughout the bed and stops. She slowly climbs down and with a very sad expression she lies on the floor, her head in the teddy bear's lap and falls asleep.

(And don't forget to like my page~)

Finally I got to take a picture with Masuda-san himself! (And get this, our outfits kind of matched!)

Polka dot fans!
The exhibition was great and I'm so glad I decided to go to the last performance. If you're in NY this month, be sure to go see it! The exhibition is on until March 29th and, for further details about it, you can go to their Facebook event page.

In the mean time, enjoy this short video of the exhibition from Yani's instagram!

Misako Aoki in NYC!

Source
On February 5th NYC's Japan Society hosted a lecture titled Lolita Fashion: Costume or Culture? I was so shocked and thrilled and surprised to hear that Misako Aoki was here! The lecture consisted of a girl fairly new to lolita fashion interviewing Misako to get Misako's perspective on the fashion. She received the basic questions such as if she wore it every day, how her family reacted etc. 2 other influential lolitas also were a part of the panel! The authors of Ramble Rori and (my favorite blog) F Yeah Lolita! Misako was as cute as you'd imagine her to be and super sweet to boot! The lecture ended with a short Baby the Stars Shine Bright fashion show, much to my surprise!

I know that writing down my notes on the panel would be ok, but you wouldn't really be getting the full story and all the nice details so we are in luck that the Japan Society posted a video on the panel for you to see! You can view it by clicking me.

Here's a video featuring the fashion show as well as an interview with Misako:

And here's a video of the coverage done for Fuji TV:

Lastly, I was lucky enough to snag a quick (aaaawkward) picture with Misako early on since I had to leave a bit early due to class the next morning (boo!):

Want to hear about the event from a whole different perspective? Check out Ramble Rori's post, she also got to go to the Tea Party held here with Misako-san!

New York Comic Con 2013!

Click any image for a larger version!
Ahhh Comic Con, a place where you can enter with your "strange" hobbies and interests and feel perfectly at home. This was my second year at Comic Con (first time while wearing lolita!) and I had such a fabulous time!

There were so many cute booths this year packed full of plushies, stationary, pens, accesories and more! I couldn't decide what to buy for soo long!! In the end I bought from the 2 cutest booths in the con.

The first booth I saw was by Qmomo! Their booth was Alpacasso heaven, I swear! They had the key chains, plushies, hats and backpacks. They also had several other famous kawaii character plushies. I bought an Alpacasso ID holder/ coin purse and it's soooo cute! (Pics later in the post)

The second booth was by Kawaii Gifts! Their's was my favorite since I'm such a huge stationary hoarder. They had any current San-X character you could think of! They had tons of Rilakkuma, Mamegoma, Sentimental Circus, Piggy Girl and loads others. For such a small booth they were packed to the brim with anything you would want to add to your stationary collection including: memo pads, stickers, deco tape, pens and notebooks along with a few plushies.

The best part? They had a special offer going on where they were selling kawaii grab bags. You could pay $10 for a small one that included a pencil, a memo pad and stickers. The large one was for $20 that came with 2 memo pads, stickers, deco tape, kawaii eraser, a letter set, a folder, a pencil and a special item (and this one would come in an adorable tote bag). Of course I went for the large one!

  • Super cute poodle tote
  • My Melody Notebook (I traded my folder for it with a friend haha)
  • Puffy stickers
  • Seal pin
  • Tsuginohi Kerori memo pad
  • Rilakkuma memo notebook
  • Rilakkuma memo pad
  • Rilakkuma pencil
  • Halloween letter set
  • Gingham deco tape
  • Hello Kitty pen
  • Ramen eraser
  • Mamegoma halloween notepad (I bought this one separately from the grab bag because I couldn't resist haha)
The Alpacasso I bought at Qmomo. It's both an ID Card holder and a coin purse!

What I wore:
  • JSK: Bodyline
  • Purse: Hello Kitty (Gift from a friend)
  • Alpacasso: Qmomo booth
  • Everything else: Offbrand

Of course, a trip to Comic Con would not be complete without running into a few lolitas! I didn't see as many as I would've liked to, but the ones I did see were adorable and so sweet!

I only managed to recognize the lolita in the first pic (SanrioPalace). If you know any of the others, let me know!

I had such a great time this year and was able to see so many cute girls, cosplays and booths! It made me feel even more comfortable in lolita and has encouraged me to maybe go to a lolita meet in the future (thanks to the lolita in the last picture who convinced me)!
