LBC: Create a Coord Based on a Halloween Story or Creature

This week's prompt for the Lolita Blog Carnival is a fun one! The title says it all, we have to choose a Halloween Story or Creature and create a coord based on it. I made a little list of things that came to mind, but they were all very typical:
 Witch
 Vampire
 Ghost
Frankenstein's monster...

Mehhh, too typical and too overdone. (Well maybe not Frankenstein but I'll steer clear of that one anyways hahah). Instead I started thinking of grim Halloween stories my mom used to tell us when she went back to school to become an English teacher. One of my favorites was:

The Woman With the Ribbon Around Her Neck
The Woman With the Ribbon Around Her Neck

In my mind I pictured the story being set in a cold rainy village with a bit of an Edgar Allan Poe vibe to it. I picture her being an elegant, mysterious woman from the Victorian era (despite the story saying they went disco dancing at one point hahaha). This coord perfectly evokes the feeling I get when I read that short story.

The story goes:

Once there was a man named Philip Games who was in love with an attractive young woman. In fact, you could say she was a very attractive, sweet with a slim build. She had one peculiar trait, however: she always wore a black velvet ribbon around her neck and was never seen without it. One day Games asked her to marry him. She said yes immediately as she was marriage-minded. “I’ll marry you on one condition,” she said. “Never touch the ribbon I wear around my neck.”...

So Strange... Want to find out why she always wore that ribbon? Finish reading the story here!
 Happy Halloween!

LBC: My Lolita Halloween

This year I've been debating about whether or not I want to wear lolita on Halloween or not. See, I haven't worn goth in about the same amount of time I hadn't worn lolita and I'm starting to miss it! But I've been seeing so many cute Halloween coords that it may just convince me to try my own hand at it! Regardless, this week's Lolita Blog Carnival topic is your lolita Halloween and this is what I want to do!

What to Wear:

If I could see the future, I wouldn't have sold my black jsk nor would I have thrown out my Jack Skellington purse and striped blazer because they would've made the perfect coord for this Halloween. Ughhhh! (This coord was what I would've worn) But the coord above I think would be a cute substitute (you know, if I actually owned all those pieces haha!

What to Do:

1. Pumpkin Carving: I've never carved pumpkins before for Halloween. It's not really a tradition in Puerto Rico but since moving to the US I've been really wanting to carve one! The three pumpkins above inspired me along with Hello Batty's Angelic Pretty pumpkin (which I sadly can't find a picture of!)

2. Watch The Nightmare Before Christmas on the big screen!
I've always wished for the opportunity to watch this movie in theaters. I was so depressed when they played a 3D screening a few years back in some theaters here in the US. Well this year they're playing it again, ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT! So perfect! Best part? Tickets only cost me $6 each!

What to Eat:

Well it isn't Halloween without sweets now is it? I love baking but I've never made anything themed nor anything with pumpkin, which is strange because I love pumpkin flavored sweets and I love working with themes! I found these three delicious looking recipes that look especially delicious and I'm gonna try to at least bake one that day.

P.S. Halloween's on a Friday this year!!

LBC: New Years Resolutions for Lolita Fashion in 2014

I was so happy to see that for this week, the Lolita Blog Carnival chose a topic I was already planning on writing about! So last year I made a list of general resolutions I had hoped to achieve in 2013 but it wasn't really specifically geared towards lolita. This year I have many lolita-related resolutions I hope to achieve!

1. Own white blouses and shoes.

Blouses: 1, 2, 3
Shoes
When I started lolita this year, I bought all my pieces in black colorways. I did this because I was finding it difficult to break out of my mentality of just buying black clothing (something I do in my casual clothing). The thing is that I'M SICK OF WEARING BLACK. Despite this, I still kept buying black items! To snap myself out of it, I sold my black JSK last month to buy a pink one. I love the way pink looks on me so much! Now my problem is that I don't have anything to match it haha!

2. Complete a full coord without using any black

Source: 1 , 2, 3 (unkown)
Ever since I got interested in lolita, I had fallen in love with the super sweet pink coords! I still can't believe I started my wardrobe with black. To follow up on my 1st resolution, as soon as I have enough items, I want to create my first non-black coord! I want to be encompassed in pink and white and maybe some red! I can't wait to accomplish this!

3. Buy a cute apron to wear over dresses

Source: 1, 2, 3
Ahhhh aprons! I love them so much! They can completely change the look of a dress, give you a new look and add an extra sweet touch to any outfit! They're a bit hard to find lately but I know that you can find some on Etsy. Bitter and Sweet has half aprons that are super cute and affordable.

4. Take pictures of my coords more often

Sources: 1, 2, 3 (unknown)
I've experimented with lolita a lot but don't take pictures that much. When I do, I only post them over on my Instagram. I really want to take more pictures to record my progress more closely over time! I've always loved when lolitas have been able to make timelines of their progress and hope to be able to do one for myself.

What are your fashion-related resolutions for 2014?

Princess-Peachie: My Inspiration in Lolita Fashion

Princess-Peachie.tumblr.com
This week for the Lolita Blog Carnival, we were asked to write about a person that inspires us in lolita fashion. Peachie is a super sweet 23 year old lolita from Scotland. She's one of the first lolitas I remember watching on YouTube and is still my #1 favorite YouTuber. It's her wardrobe and outfit videos that finally convinced me that my love for lolita lies in Sweet and not Gothic. Actually, the picture above was what inspired me to sell my black JSK to get myself a pink or sax dress

A video of several of her cute casual lolita outfits!

My favorite thing about Peachie is that her personality is even sweeter than the outfits she wears! The style greatly suits her in every way. Another thing is that she is a lolita with a wardrobe composed of 90% Bodyline items. She proves that you can look like a million bucks and not spend a lot if you can't. Not only that, but that Bodyline is a "brand" that makes loads of cute, quality items.

Now, a few of my favorite outfits~

I really hope one day I can become a lolita that is as adorable and stylish as her!

How I Got Interested in Lolita Fashion

I have an ultra old folder on my computer simply titled "JAPAN". It's at least 7 years old and has been transferred from computer to computer. This folder is what started my journey into J-Fashion and eventually to lolita (this story is what this week's Lolita Blog Carnival is for!) I created the folder in 7th grade when I saw my first image of japanese fashion: a photo of a beautiful model by the name of Tsubasa Masuwaka .

It's weird, I didn't see her clothes or anything, but I instantly fell in love with her hair and makeup. It took me a bit of research, but I managed to find out that the style was called gyaru. It was all about trendy fashion, dramatic/enlarging eye makeup and beautiful hair. I loved the look of it! I spend so much time looking up video tutorials for the hair/makeup and following blogs of these beautiful girls like ChaiGyaru and Xiaxue.

Right: ChaiGyaru
I never actually pursued gyaru fashion because I grew up in private school. Uniforms were worn 5/7 days a week and I didn't really go out with friends on the weekends. Yet I still browsed through the pictures and blogs every day and started researching other Japanese street styles; this is when I discovered the websites Japanese Streets and Tokyo Fashion. They introduced me to Decora (a little but too much for me) and Fairy Kei (super cute and pastel but not quite for me either). One day while checking the day's street snaps, I encountered the following picture:

The photo was simply captioned:
STUDENT, 17
Style: Lolita
Wig – N/A

Dress – BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT

Shoes – Angelic Pretty

Lolita fashion instantly had my heart. I spent weeks crazily scouring the internet looking for photos of other girls dressed in Lolita fashion (more specifically, Sweet Lolita) and could not help smiling at every picture. The one blog I remember spending hours on was Aesthetic Lolita's blog (no longer up unfortunately!). I seriously loved the fashion. By this time, I had just turned 17 years old: still in private school, still no social life. I didn't see the point in, once again, pursuing a style I really liked and eventually it faded from my mind again.

The blog that permanently pulled me back, in my last year of high school, was Lolita Charm (now known as Parfait Doll). She wrote such fantastic articles and fashion guides! Again, I'd just spend HOURS browsing the blog and especially loved her monthly style tips. This time I was permanently hooked.

My Perfect Lolita Themed Halloween Party!

I absolutely adore Halloween even though I never do anything for it. It always manages to land smack dab in the middle of the week and NYC during Halloween is not exactly the safest place to be... I still love wandering the stores smiling at all the decor, walking down the residential blocks and seeing the houses that display their carved pumpkins... It's such a wonderful time! It also makes me wonder, if I could throw my own Halloween bash with friends (the cute way) how would it be?

Rundown:
♥ Dress - Bodyline ♥
♥ Shoes- Bodyline ♥
♥ Earrings - Glitter Bandits ♥
♥ Ring - etsy (lost the link :c) ♥
♥ Tights - ebay ♥

Guilty. I've been dying to own one of Bodyline's adorable maid dresses! I'd never wear them out as regular outfits but they would make such cute and easy Halloween costumes! This new sailor-style maid dress is off-the-charts cute! I coorded it in a way to be like a vintage diner or ice cream parlor waitress. The pink is so sugary sweet and this costume just makes me think of sock hops and soda pop!

1 2 3
My party would be all sweets, sweets, and sweets! Lots of spooky cookies, cakes and candy! If possible, I'd bake them all myself. I've been really getting into baking lately so this would be super fun for me! (If you click the source links above, they will take you to some tutorials on how to make the treats in the pictures!) Also I noticed I'm a big fan of spider decor during Halloween (not so fond of the Wolf Spider my boyfriend lost at his house. Nope, they haven't found it)

1 2 3 4
I'm a huge fan of Martha Stewart Halloween decor (as you can plainly see haha). I love that classy, bright, cute type of Halloween decor. There would be LOTS of jack-o-lanterns and candle light and cute cutouts and probably some hanging bats and ghosts around there as well! I'm super crafty so I'm pretty sure I'd go overboard haha.

Would your party be dark and spooky or cute and bright?

My Favorite Print Theme in Lolita

I used to not be a very big fan of prints. Most of my inspiration pictures used to be beautiful solid colored dresses with special details in construction. In recent years, though, some goooorgeous prints have been released and man... I can't help it! I've fallen in love!

The theme that makes me go weak in the knee is, if you haven't guessed yet, CATS! They're not my favorite animal, I don't have pet cats (and never have), they're too aloof for my taste and I'm mostly allergic to them... For some reason, in print form, I fall in love every time! In fact, Cat Tea Party is my dream print!

Innocent World's Cherry Cat JSK is another gorgeous print that is to-die for! The art on it is so lovely on this. The colors complement each other so well, the creamy white of the cats' fur is so warm and pairs well with the pink and sax. (You should definitely go check out the sax colorway. It makes me want to cry!!)

Baby's "Cute Meowing Friend" is another super sweet print. Watching a cat play with yarn has to be the most "awwwwww"-inducing thing in the world!! The artwork is nice and soft and dreamy and I just love it so much!

Lastly, Angelic Pretty's Cinema Doll! It's not exactly cat themed but the cat on it is beautiful! This is another of my dream prints. It manages to strike the perfect balance between cute and elegant. Every single colorway is perfect, something I rarely think print dresses accomplish! I can't wait to one day get my hands on it~

What's your favorite print theme?

3 Secrets for Someone Just Getting into Lolita Fashion

I'm so excited to introduce Lolita Blog Carnival posts into my blog! For those that don't know what it is, Lolita Blog Carnival is a weekly blog post done by a group of lolitas that discuss the same topic relating to lolita fashion.

This week's topic is a little funny to me because I'm technically just getting into the fashion! Even though I've been admiring the fashion for over 7 years, I only now just started dressing in the clothes. Don't be fooled though, I've definitely picked up a few things for those of you that are completely new!

1. This video will help you coordinate like a pro.

Seriously guys, when I found this video I swore I heard angels singing. It teaches you how to balance your colors in a coord so it looks perfect!

2. This video will tell you all you need to know about Bodyline.

Don't be the newbie that asks "Is Bodyline a good place to shop?". Everybody hates when this question is asked because there's hundreds of reviews that say it's good but most newbies don't bother to do their research! This video not only shows you that Bodyline is good but also shows you what items are best and tips!

3. This video will teach you how to tie the perfect waist bow

A shopgirl from Baby the Stars Shine Bright teaches you how to tie the perfect bow, need I say more?

So there you have it! These videos are some pretty great resources to make a brand new lolita feel less worried about being new. They helped me a lot and I hope they are useful to some of you too!
