Rilakkuma Day! 10.11.14

This past Saturday, San-X celebrated Rilakkuma Day at FAO Shwarz! They had so much Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma and Kiitori merchandise! Plushies of all sizes, pens, mugs, pencil pouches, kigurumis, you name it!

They also had a Rilakkuma mascot you could take pictures with, and cute lolitas and fairy kei girls working the event! I was so excited!

My boyfriend and I took pictures with Rilakkuma together and I dressed in lolita for the occasion (something I haven't done in MONTHS!)

Sources: (mine) and 2 (The Rilakkuma Girls, including Victoria Suzanne!)

In the end, my boyfriend offered to get me any plush I wanted and my heart was set on the Korilakkuma bunny head pillow. We literally grabbed the VERY last one. I was so happy! All in all, a very kawaii day!

For more photos, search the hashtag #RilakkumaDay on Instagram!

P.S. If you're in NYC during October, the Rilakkuma displays will be up for the entire month, so don't miss it!
OOTD:

Cardigan: Forever 21
Necklace: Handmade by me
Bow Double Brooch: Little Banshees
JSK: Bodyline
Purse: Betsey Johnson
Tights: Forever 21
Shoes: Bakers
My poor petti died by the end of the event (lots of smooshing in between people)
I really liked the coord though! First one I've 100% been satisfied with!

Are you planning to go see the Rilakkuma Displays?
What merch would you have gotten if you had been there?

Misako Aoki in NYC!

Source
On February 5th NYC's Japan Society hosted a lecture titled Lolita Fashion: Costume or Culture? I was so shocked and thrilled and surprised to hear that Misako Aoki was here! The lecture consisted of a girl fairly new to lolita fashion interviewing Misako to get Misako's perspective on the fashion. She received the basic questions such as if she wore it every day, how her family reacted etc. 2 other influential lolitas also were a part of the panel! The authors of Ramble Rori and (my favorite blog) F Yeah Lolita! Misako was as cute as you'd imagine her to be and super sweet to boot! The lecture ended with a short Baby the Stars Shine Bright fashion show, much to my surprise!

I know that writing down my notes on the panel would be ok, but you wouldn't really be getting the full story and all the nice details so we are in luck that the Japan Society posted a video on the panel for you to see! You can view it by clicking me.

Here's a video featuring the fashion show as well as an interview with Misako:

And here's a video of the coverage done for Fuji TV:

Lastly, I was lucky enough to snag a quick (aaaawkward) picture with Misako early on since I had to leave a bit early due to class the next morning (boo!):

Want to hear about the event from a whole different perspective? Check out Ramble Rori's post, she also got to go to the Tea Party held here with Misako-san!

A Full Lolita Coord for $133~!

My favorite thing to do on quiet nights is to go to the archives of my favorite blogs and re-read old posts. Last night I ran into Victoria from Parfait Doll's Lolita Blog Carnival post on making a full coordinate for a low price. As soon as I saw it, I yelled "I'm in!!" (in my head of course haha!) Their limit for that old post was $100 but I gave myself a bit extra (and I'll tell you why in a bit!).

We all know it takes quite a bit of cash to put together a nice lolita outfit but who says you can't do it for much less than the usual hundreds? It's hard, I know, with the luxurious dresses and detailed accessories it's easy to wear a coordinate worth well over $400! Not today! This outfit can be yours for $133 (minus shipping) and is a great coord for a beginner sweet lolita!

Everything is from Bodyline!
JSK ($33) | Blouse ($47) | Shoes ($40) | Socks ($13)
The JSK (The Dress): Instinctively, I wanted to choose an OP to cut down on costs (because you don't need a blouse with an OP) but you can get so many more looks out of a JSK! Not to mention that this adorable JSK is only $33 and one of my favorite pieces on Bodyline's website right now. I'm actually considering buying it soon!

The Blouse: This is a big reason the coord came over the budget (it's the priciest piece in the coord) but I have a very good reason for refusing to replace it: It is unbelievable versatile. For starters, this blouse has detachable sleeves. You can wear it as is or you can remove the long sleeves and just have the puffy short sleeves. This'll make wearing lolita in different seasons so easy! Another great detail? The jabot (aka the ruffly neck piece) is also removable! You can wear it for elegant looks or to add more interest to a skirt/blouse coord or leave it out and replace with a bow! This one blouse gives you 4 DIFFERENT LOOKS! I'd say that is well worth going over budget.

The Shoes: These are one of my favorite pairs of shoes on Bodyline, they are so cute and they have really good reviews. Another bonus? They come in 11 colors! For this coord I chose pink because I really couldn't resist how nice they look with the JSK but if you want more bang for your buck, I'd get a white pair. With white shoes, you can expand your wardrobe to many more color possibilities.

The Socks: Same reason as the shoes, I couldn't resist getting the pinkxwhite socks! They look so cute in this coord. Again, if you want them to be more versatile, you can easily replace them with plain white socks to wear with more outfits.

"But Aleks, what about accessories?" Well dear, I left them out because they are extras! But let's say you got a bit of extra birthday money (or Christmas money on the way ;D) then here's a few extras you can get:

Headbow: Sweet Mildred ($20) | Bag: Loris ($28)
Lolita is a pricey fashion, but it's possible to make a cute coordinate for significantly less than usual! Also remember that you probably already own accessories and bags that would work great in lolita. To be a lolita on a budget you don't have to sacrifice style, you just gotta get a little creative!

A Date at Green-Wood Cemetery

On Saturday I spent a crisp, autumn afternoon at the lovely Green-Wood Cemetery. "Founded in 1838 as one of America’s first rural cemeteries, the Green-Wood Cemetery soon developed an international reputation for its magnificent beauty and became the fashionable place to be buried. Crowds flocked to Green-Wood to enjoy family outings, carriage rides and sculpture viewing in the finest of first generation American landscapes. Green-Wood’s popularity helped inspire the creation of public parks, including New York City’s Central and Prospect Parks."

I felt like this would be a nice date to wear some Gothic Lolita to!

Outfit Rundown:
♥ JSK - Bodyline ♥
♥ Everything else- Offbrand ♥

This cemetery is such a beautiful day to spend just exploring and walking around. It's full of beautiful views and foliage. So many different kinds of birds reside here and fly about. At one point we were walking on the perimeter of the cemetery and we saw the NYC skyline and the Statue of Liberty! Such a nice afternoon ♥

♥ And of course a picture of me and my boyfriend since this was a date ♥
We accidentally matched!

New York Comic Con 2013!

Click any image for a larger version!
Ahhh Comic Con, a place where you can enter with your "strange" hobbies and interests and feel perfectly at home. This was my second year at Comic Con (first time while wearing lolita!) and I had such a fabulous time!

There were so many cute booths this year packed full of plushies, stationary, pens, accesories and more! I couldn't decide what to buy for soo long!! In the end I bought from the 2 cutest booths in the con.

The first booth I saw was by Qmomo! Their booth was Alpacasso heaven, I swear! They had the key chains, plushies, hats and backpacks. They also had several other famous kawaii character plushies. I bought an Alpacasso ID holder/ coin purse and it's soooo cute! (Pics later in the post)

The second booth was by Kawaii Gifts! Their's was my favorite since I'm such a huge stationary hoarder. They had any current San-X character you could think of! They had tons of Rilakkuma, Mamegoma, Sentimental Circus, Piggy Girl and loads others. For such a small booth they were packed to the brim with anything you would want to add to your stationary collection including: memo pads, stickers, deco tape, pens and notebooks along with a few plushies.

The best part? They had a special offer going on where they were selling kawaii grab bags. You could pay $10 for a small one that included a pencil, a memo pad and stickers. The large one was for $20 that came with 2 memo pads, stickers, deco tape, kawaii eraser, a letter set, a folder, a pencil and a special item (and this one would come in an adorable tote bag). Of course I went for the large one!

  • Super cute poodle tote
  • My Melody Notebook (I traded my folder for it with a friend haha)
  • Puffy stickers
  • Seal pin
  • Tsuginohi Kerori memo pad
  • Rilakkuma memo notebook
  • Rilakkuma memo pad
  • Rilakkuma pencil
  • Halloween letter set
  • Gingham deco tape
  • Hello Kitty pen
  • Ramen eraser
  • Mamegoma halloween notepad (I bought this one separately from the grab bag because I couldn't resist haha)
The Alpacasso I bought at Qmomo. It's both an ID Card holder and a coin purse!

What I wore:
  • JSK: Bodyline
  • Purse: Hello Kitty (Gift from a friend)
  • Alpacasso: Qmomo booth
  • Everything else: Offbrand

Of course, a trip to Comic Con would not be complete without running into a few lolitas! I didn't see as many as I would've liked to, but the ones I did see were adorable and so sweet!

I only managed to recognize the lolita in the first pic (SanrioPalace). If you know any of the others, let me know!

I had such a great time this year and was able to see so many cute girls, cosplays and booths! It made me feel even more comfortable in lolita and has encouraged me to maybe go to a lolita meet in the future (thanks to the lolita in the last picture who convinced me)!

10pm Haircuts and Accidental Kuro Lolita

Hello pumpkin pie! (I'm just gonna call you that until fall is over haha)

So last night I spontaneously cut my bangs at 10pm in my bathroom while watching a YouTube tutorial... I do impulsive things with my hair every once in a while but luckily this one turned out alright!

The haircut made me feel very lolita so today for class I decided to put together another coord. (I think I've decided that my Fridays will be for lolita!) So I picked my black JSK, my Anna House blouse and put on otk socks and flats and realized at the end.... I'm in full on black hahahaa.

Accidental Kuro Lolita

  • Blouse: Anna House
  • JSK: Bodyline
  • Heart brooch: Designed and made by me
  • Everything else: Offbrand
Have you ever accidentally put together a coord different from your regular style?

First Times Wearing Lolita!

Hello pumpkin pies!

The weather is cooling down in NYC (well except for today, it's almost 80 degrees!) and I thought it would be a perfect time to break out my lolita clothes for the very first time!

I've never been nervous about going out in public in lolita; I've always dressed offbeat. I just never had enough components to put together a nice coord. Now I felt confident enough to do it!
