2014 Lolita New Year's Resolutions: How'd I do?

Last year, for the Lolita Blog Carnival, I wrote about my lolita fashion new year's resolutions. I had been thinking recently about how cool it'd be to re-visit that post and see if I actually came through with the resolutions I made (which I usually don't haha). So let's see how I did!

1. Own white blouses and shoes.
(half Success!)

Blouses: 123
I surprisingly achieved (half) of this! I recently bought a white blouse since Bodyline had a free shipping offer. Funnily enough, I got the first short-sleeved blouse I featured in the post last year. It really convinced me that I do still love lolita! I just needed to see my JSKs worn with a white blouse. I didn't buy white shoes, I still really want those shoes I featured! I ordered deep pink shoes but they're stuck in customs (for the past 9 days). I hope they get here! If not I'll re-order them for Christmas.

2. Complete a full coord without using any black
(Fail!)

I totally failed here. I just couldn't do this since I didn't own a white blouse until the very end and my pink shoes just haven't gotten here either and bleh! I was kind of sad I couldn't do this :(  I'm hoping to definitely do this next year!

3. Buy a cute apron to wear over dresses
(Fail!)

Hahha this post is just looking good for me. No I didn't get a cute little apron either (which would've been such an easy, inexpensive addition) I still like aprons with lolita so I will try next year to get one! I'm thinking though that I want a half apron instead of a full one. They seem more toned down and versatile for lolita.

4. Take pictures of my coords more often
(Fail!)

Sources: 12, 3 (unknown)
I literally only posted 2 coords this year. 2! That's so bad hhahah. It's almost like I posted less after I made the resolution! And I hate the coord I wore to see Misako. My coat had smooshed my petti so it got all flat and the black and pink coord was just too harsh and the blazer looked atrocious with the outfit ughhhh. But I'm learning... And that's a good reason to take more pictures, it lets me look back at my progress and figure out what worked and didn't work.

So it looks like 2014 was a lolita resolution FAIL. Hahahaa not too shocked, but it was fun going back to see what 2013 Aleks wanted me to accomplish this year. Sorry to disappoint you 2013 Aleks!!

So were you able to keep any of your fashion-related resolutions this year?

2014 Goals (a bit late but better than never!)

I never properly posted a list of goals for 2014 (mostly because I never really make any and when I do I don't stick to them!  ). In the past few weeks though, I realized that I once again made a few goals to accomplish this year. Maybe I should make a conscious effort to accomplish them!

Learn to embroider already! I mean c'mon Aleks, you bought 2 embroidery hoops in December along with who knows how many different colored embroidery flosses. It's time! (Actually, I just started my first piece :D)

I've had this pic saved since 2010 and can finally read what it says!
(It says "kawaii" in hiragana)

Take Japanese classes. For my Bachelor's degree, I have to take 2 foreign language courses. I am already fluent in Spanish and English and want to challenge myself with a totally different language. People told me to just take Italian or French but those are way too similar to the languages I already know! Besides, I love Japanese culture, so why not try out the language too? (I also have already started this goal!)

Earrings I made in 2012

Make more jewelry. Ever since I graduated from Jewelry Design, I am ashamed to say I haven't made anything new. I kind of didn't want anything to do with jewelry after those stressful 2 years of my life, but I took a semester off from jewelry and that's enough. Time to get back to it! (I have a goldfish brooch in the works)

Take advantage of NYC. I've been living in NYC for 2.5 years now and I feel like I have definitely not taken much advantage of that! I have not really done any intense exploring and definitely have not gone to many of the free events that float around. Time to change that. I'm starting by going to Sebastian Masuda's exhibition this week. Also I should probably do more things off the Free in NYC this Week list...

Learn to cook more things. I hate cooking, but what I hate more is the fact that I waited to learn to cook until I moved out! Now I'm living on my own and can cook maybe a total of 5 things (that might actually be an overestimate...) I want some variety!

I need it!
I think this set of goals is nice and tangible. It involves lots of things that would be really good for me in all aspects of life! They're also goals that can get as complex as I want/can and I really think I can stick to this one! Wish me luck xoxo

LBC: New Years Resolutions for Lolita Fashion in 2014

I was so happy to see that for this week, the Lolita Blog Carnival chose a topic I was already planning on writing about! So last year I made a list of general resolutions I had hoped to achieve in 2013 but it wasn't really specifically geared towards lolita. This year I have many lolita-related resolutions I hope to achieve!

1. Own white blouses and shoes.

Blouses: 1, 2, 3
Shoes
When I started lolita this year, I bought all my pieces in black colorways. I did this because I was finding it difficult to break out of my mentality of just buying black clothing (something I do in my casual clothing). The thing is that I'M SICK OF WEARING BLACK. Despite this, I still kept buying black items! To snap myself out of it, I sold my black JSK last month to buy a pink one. I love the way pink looks on me so much! Now my problem is that I don't have anything to match it haha!

2. Complete a full coord without using any black

Ever since I got interested in lolita, I had fallen in love with the super sweet pink coords! I still can't believe I started my wardrobe with black. To follow up on my 1st resolution, as soon as I have enough items, I want to create my first non-black coord! I want to be encompassed in pink and white and maybe some red! I can't wait to accomplish this!

3. Buy a cute apron to wear over dresses

Source: 1, 2, 3
Ahhhh aprons! I love them so much! They can completely change the look of a dress, give you a new look and add an extra sweet touch to any outfit! They're a bit hard to find lately but I know that you can find some on Etsy. Bitter and Sweet has half aprons that are super cute and affordable.

4. Take pictures of my coords more often

Sources: 1, 2, 3 (unknown)
I've experimented with lolita a lot but don't take pictures that much. When I do, I only post them over on my Instagram. I really want to take more pictures to record my progress more closely over time! I've always loved when lolitas have been able to make timelines of their progress and hope to be able to do one for myself.

What are your fashion-related resolutions for 2014?
